SLEEP EDUCATION & WORKSHOPS

These sessions outline the benefits of sleep optimization and recommend practical strategies to improve sleep duration, quality, and timing.

  • In-person sleep education presentations (one hour each):

    • Learn why sleep is important for health and cognitive, physiologic, and physical performance.

    • Discover the competitive advantage of optimal sleep through professional athlete success stories;

    • Gain practical strategies to improve sleep at home and while traveling.

    • Specialized topics and strategies for specific groups with tailored recommendations (i.e. Rookies, coaches, athletes in rehabilitation, development league athletes, etc.).

  • Follow up presentation(s) (virtual/in-person; one hour): Dive deeper into focused topics such as travel and jet lag, sleep technology including wearables, short sleep management, and sleep supplements and aids.

  • Staff education and training (in-person; one hour; quarterly): Train staff (i.e. coaches, nutritionists, S&C, mental skills, etc.) to be Sleep Champions through education and arm them with Sleep Tools.

  • Team-wide Workshop: Design an individualized Sleep Performance Plan with a provided worksheet during an interactive workshop with Dr. Mah. Utilize a 3-month Sleep Journal to track progress to achieve sleep goals.

  • Family Education: Provide sleep education for athletes’ families to help them better support the athletes’ sleep at home and while traveling. Provide practical strategies and recommendations for better sleep for the whole family including baby and children’s sleep.

  • Digital Education: Provide ongoing educational materials (infographics, articles, tips, etc.) throughout the year to educate and encourage best sleep practices; collaborate with organization’s video/media team to produce digital education.

SLEEP ASSESSMENT

A sleep assessment provides a baseline of the sleep health of your team and identifies areas for interventions.

  • Assess sleep health of your organization via a Sleep Profile questionnaire. Results may be included in presentations to identify areas in which strategic sleep interventions can improve organizational health, productivity, and performance.

  • Obtain individualized feedback and actionable steps to improve sleep.

  • Reassess and compare sleep health at different times of the year (i.e. preseason vs midseason) and over multiple seasons.

SLEEP MONITORING

Objective sleep monitoring provides ongoing assessment of sleep patterns that inform athletes of sleep trends.

  • Obtain insights on individual and team sleep trends from objective sleep wearables.

  • Leverage strategies to improve sleep and monitor changes with sleep wearables.

TRAVEL & MONITORING

Practical recommendations based on travel and schedule evaluation will minimize the effects of jet lag and maximize performance at home and while traveling.

  • Assess home and travel schedules including flights and daily training. Obtain recommendations to minimize jet lag and maximize performance specific to targeted games or competitions.

  • Customize hotel rooms to optimize sleep per individual preferences.

  • Develop specific strategies to improve sleep at home and while traveling. Develop digital education to communicate travel strategies to the team.

  • Develop Travel Sleep Kits with customized Sleep Tools that can be leveraged while traveling to minimize environmental disturbances and maximize sleep quality.

INDIVIDUAL CONSULTATION

Individual consultations provide athletes with personalized Sleep Performance Plans.

  • Obtain insights on sleep trends from sleep wearables.

  • Build personalized Sleep Performance Plans to optimize sleep, to address specific lifestyle factors, to strategize upcoming travel, and to tackle challenging sleep situations.

  • Obtain targeted recommendations for pre-season, regular season, and off-season training, travel, and schedules.

  • Develop a sleep support system with Dr. Mah, team providers, family, and others.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM RESOURCES

A comprehensive Sleep Performance Program provides world-class sleep resources to your organization including:

  • Access to an expert sleep resource for your organization.

  • Integration of services with other staff providers (i.e. nutritionist, mental skills, S&C, PT, etc.)

  • Development of bespoke organizational sleep resources such as Sleep Rooms, sleep awareness initiatives, and referral for clinical sleep disorders as needed.
